Chris Swenda

Chris has spent the better part of the last 35 years volunteering within the community in various capacities. From serving in the volunteer fire service for a total of 12 years, to serving in the US Army as a Combat Medic from 1991-1995. In 2003 he and his family started spending summer vacations on mission trips teaching middle and high school students how to do home repairs for those in need all over the mid Atlantic and northeast regions. Most recently, Chris began leading a small group to serve our nation’s heroes by providing wheelchair ramps and other various home repairs. Chris is a 2024 recipient of our Glass Tear Award for continuing to serve after his service in the military. He has served on the Veterans’ Island Board as Secretary since January of 2025.
